[Day 22]-Blogathon- World Water day!

I never knew today is “world water day”, until I saw the message in the office corridor.
we all know that water is very critical for every living being and it is an elixir and all that!

You will understand the value of something only when you don’t have. How true it is. It was somewhere at the start of May’2003 that the severe drought hit the lands and in the loop the second thing happened was the water scarcity!!!We had couple of government owned corporation pipes in our street and during the start of every day, we would rush with say some 15 to 20 big pots and vessels to fill the water and store it for the next couple of days. We maintained a complete decorum to ensure every other house got a minimum of 3 pots water for their daily usage. From bathing till washing vessels, we always depended on the corporation water!

It was one of the sultry summers in 2003 when the river dried completely. A wedding in house, more people and no water made every other person in the house to run, search and store as much of water as possible.Hats off to all my family members ,who stood in queues, filled the pots and ensured all the relatives had enough water for their needs.

Fast forward to couple of years back, we were hit by water scarcity in Triplicane .Every day was  a battle. we tried calling all the water supply units to at least help us get the water for money , which can be stored in the tanks. Many water supply units bluntly rejected for the sheer reason, the roads are narrow and their lorry cannot come in the narrow roads! we always approached our relative’s house to lend us some water

These two incidents hit me real hard. The least bit that I wanted to diligently follow to save or preserve water is below.

1.Save rain water as and when possible, which would be used for washing and cleaning. During my school and college days,my mom collected the rain water, which was later used for washing clothes and vessels. I wish to try this!

2.I try my best to not be lavish with water usage. A very long way to go indeed. Taking baby steps..
your inputs on this topic is always welcome!
